“Pure cotton” is one of the most misused labels in ethnic wear. Before you buy, these quick checks help you tell genuine cotton from a blend.
The touch & wrinkle test
Pure cotton feels cool, slightly textured and matte — not slippery or shiny. Scrunch a corner in your fist: real cotton wrinkles readily and holds the crease, while polyester blends spring back smooth.
The absorbency test
A drop of water spreads and soaks quickly into pure cotton. On synthetic blends it tends to bead up and sit on the surface.
The burn test (for a spare thread)
If you can spare a loose thread, cotton burns like paper with a soft ash and a burnt-leaf smell. Synthetics melt into a hard bead and smell of plastic. Only try this safely on a stray thread, never the garment.
Look for the weave count
Fine weaves such as 60x60 cotton are tightly woven, soft and breathable. Our Pure Cotton Kurtas use this fine 60x60 weave.
